初三英语阅读理解专项练习

A friend’s grandfather came to America from Britain. He went into a cafeteria(自助餐厅)in lower Manhattan to get something to eat. He sat down at an empty table and waited for someone to take his order. Of course nobody did. At last, a woman with a plate full of food sat down in front of him and told him how a cafeteria worked. “Start out at the end,” she said, “Just go along the line and pick out what you want. At the other end they’ll tell you how much you have to pay.”

“I soon learned that’s how everything works in America,” the grandfather told a friend. “Life is like a cafeteria here. You can get anything you want only if you like to pay the money. Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.

In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something worng, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.

Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转 ) door. . When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

D. All the above.

A. money always brings happiness

D. only rich people have happiness

( )5. Which is the title of the passage?

A. Happiness B. Happy and Lucky

Do you ever have a dream of making your home a happier place to be? Maybe there are some points you will follow:

Sometimes you don't think your parents are fair to you. When you want to dress in a modern way, your mum doesn't like you wearing a mini-skirt. When you are making phone calls to friends, they ask if you're speaking to a boy or a girl. Sometimes it seems that you' re not as close to your parents as you used to be. How can you become close again?

"Closing the Gap" by American author Jay McGraw gives advice on how to have a better relationship (3) with your parents. He gives ways to help you understand your parents. When you think "my parents don't want me to have any fun, " that usually means your parents want you to be safe. Both parents and children have needs. They need to feel they are important and loved. 本文文档版下载:http://www.k12zy.com/33/74/337469.htm
